Advocacy with IAD
The Indiana Association of the Deaf (IAD) provides specialized advocacy services to protect the civil, linguistic, and human rights of Deaf Hoosiers. We take action on legislative threats, respond to community crises, and offer training and tools to empower our members to advocate for themselves and each other.
OUR SPECIALIZED ADVOCACY SERVICES
Legislative Monitoring & Mobilization
IAD tracks legislation that affects the Deaf community and builds relationships with decision-makers. We organize campaigns and empower community members to influence laws that shape their lives.
Rapid Response & Community Alerts
We act swiftly to inform and mobilize Deaf Hoosiers when urgent issues arise, sharing ASL videos, call-to-actions, and organizing events to ensure your voice is heard.
Individual Advocacy & Referrals
While we do not offer legal representation, we assist Deaf individuals facing discrimination or systematic barriers, guiding them through available supports and connecting them with culturally competent resources.
Advocacy Training & Leadership Development
We offer workshops to build advocacy skills and help Deaf youth and adults become confident leaders in their communities and beyond.
