Hi everyone!

Welcome to the new Indiana Association of the Deaf web site. We’ve switched over to WordPress software that helps us manage all these pages and post vlog and blog entries. WordPress is more user-friendly than what we had earlier, and we hope to keep things simple here so IAD can continue to use this site for a long time to come.

It’s our hope to add older content, minutes, records, photos and information to this web site eventually with their “original posting” date so they can be searched. This will require a lot of time and commitment. We’re going to do this a little by little.

As for IAD, the new board has met once in special board meeting on April 9th to discuss our plans to send delegates to National Association of the Deaf this coming July in Philadelphia. The board voted to budget $3,500 for 4 delegates: Charleen Sculley, Patrick Flores, Marvin Miller (President and alternate) and Jaye Johnson (alternate).

We also voted to donate $150 to ISD students attending MathCounts. They’ve done very well at this event. Congratulations to Tyler Berdy, Joshua Skjeveland, and Jeffrey Spinale.

IAD will be at PTCO Day this coming Sunday, and see us there! Be sure to sign up for membership and tell us what our priorities should be.

The board also voted to hold a day long retreat by this fall. We also will decide on date for IAD biennial conference next year as IAD will be celebrating its 125th year!

What do we do at IAD? We currently provide non-credit ASL classes for families and friends at ISD, coordinated by capable Wanda Kirby. Many thanks for your hard work, Wanda! In addition to ASL classes, we support our community by being involved — oftentimes behind the scenes — in interpreting, deaf services, ISD, and more.

So your feedback on what IAD can do for the community is needed! E-mail us or tell us in person.

In closing, I hope to simplify things at IAD so we can strengthen our organization and our ability to advocate and push for what our Deaf community in Indiana needs. This is just a beginning.

Thank you!
Marvin T. Miller
President
